Kotokan is a problem-solving platform with content organized in what we call Challenges, which are groups of problems and explanations for your students to practice and learn (we also call them lessons).
A Challenge appears on a card like this:
Assigning Challenges to your students is very simple. You only need to have created a class previously and follow these steps:
1. My content> Assign New Challenge
On your Home screen, press the yellow button “Assign New Challenge” and it will redirect you to the search page for Challenges.
2. Selection page > Browse Challenges
All Kotokan Challenges will appear here.
The different Challenges include a recommended age range for which they are intended (for example, 7-9).
You can use the browser on the left to filter the Challenges by age, language or content.
3. Open a Challenge
You can open it just by clicking on the card and you will see the problems it contains and more details, such as recommended age, curricular content (ie. Subtraction, Addition…) or strategic content (ie. Irrelevant information…) and topic (ie. Soccer, Food…).
When opening a Challenge you will see the following screen:
By clicking on the problems, you will be able to see them in more detail, as well as the ages for which they are intended, the curricular content (ie. Subtraction, Addition…) or strategic content of the problem (ie. Information irrelevant…) and its theme (ie. Soccer, Food…). For example, this is a Division and Remove irrelevant data problem.
Once the preview of the problem in question is closed, you can assign it.
4. Use this Challenge
Click on the bottom button Assign it to a class in the left side column.
5. Assign class
A pop-up window appears. Choose a class and optionally the dates for starting and closing the challenge.
In “Start Date” choose the date on which the students will be able to start solving it and in “Due Date” choose the date on which you want all your students to have delivered it to you.
Once completed, you have to press the main Assign Challenge button.
When you press that button, it will return you to the previous page and you will see a confirmation message like this:
Then your students will see it on their main page.
You can assign the same content to other classes from the same page with the sequence: Use Lesson > Assign to Class > Class Name
On your home page, the content that you've added will appear in the MY CONTENTS section. In the image below, we see that the FIND AND REMOVE IRRELEVANT INFORMATION (1) has been added to My Content.
To see the progress of the students in that content, you will have to enter the class (click the class card).
We will write an article describing the flow of review and evaluation of student work.
Thanks for using Kotokan.
